The Academy of the Holy Family’s Life Skills classes recently took part in a heartwarming project to support young girls in Africa. Inspired by benefactor Cath Fonzo, who introduced the Little Dresses for Africa initiative to Life Skills teacher Suzanne Fowler, students enthusiastically joined the cause.
The goal was twofold: to help young girls prepare for school by providing them with dresses and to teach Academy students the valuable skill of sewing. In a single day, students came together—rotating in during study halls and free periods—to measure, cut, and sew 21 colorful dresses.
Each stitch carried a message of hope and encouragement, as these handmade garments were sent overseas to give young girls not only something to wear but a greater chance to attend school—maybe even a school like ours one day.
This project was more than a sewing lesson—it was a lesson in compassion, service, and global sisterhood.
