Hundreds of the faithful walked with the Lord in prayer, devotion and blessing as a witness to His love and Presence among us in the Eucharistic Procession on the Feast of Corpus Christi, Sunday, June 7, at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick. 
The Feast of Corpus Christi celebrates the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Catholics believe in faith that the Eucharist is not merely a symbol, but truly Christ Himself — Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity — given to us in love to nourish and strengthen each of us individually and all of us together as His Church.
The Eucharistic Procession is a beautiful and ancient tradition of the Feast. During the procession, the Blessed Sacrament is carried publicly among the faithful. Through this sacred witness, we follow Christ, present in the Eucharist, out of the church building and into the streets, praying together in devotion and bringing His blessing to the local community.
Bishop Reidy was the main celebrant of the Mass and procession, and held the consecrated host aloft in a monstrance, accompanied by clergy, altar servers, Knights of Columbus, cathedral choir, and parishioners. In this way the Church shows that Christ, here among us, walks with us on our pilgrimage to heaven.
The procession traveled from the front of the cathedral down Broadway to Perkins Street, and stopped at an altar at 31 Perkins St., the Communications Office building. There, a reading from Thomas Aquinas took place. The procession crossed the cathedral parking lot onto Otis Street, and made its way to the Chancery, where a reading from Saint John Paul II took place. Each time, the bishop placed the monstrance on a small altar and kneeled in prayer before it.
Then, participants processed back into the cathedral, where a benediction followed, and the bishop placed the Blessed Sacrament in the church tabernacle.
