Connecticut Catholic Conference Files Freedom of Information Complaint for Abortion Numbers

The Connecticut Catholic Conference (CCC), the educational 501c(3) branch of the CT Catholic Public Affairs Conference, has filed a Freedom of Information complaint against the State Department of Public Health (DPH) for failing to provide the CCC with its annual statistical abortion report. The DPH compiles not only the number of abortions performed in the state, but also the age of the woman, the gestation period, the state the woman is a resident of, the type of abortion, etc.. The medical provider of the abortion must complete a one page report and submit it to the DPH every time an abortion is performed.

Since 2009, the CCC has used this information to publish an annual report titled The State of Abortion in Connecticut. The DPH has always provided its statistical report to the CCC without any issues. However, this year the DPH failed to respond to repeated requests for this basic information. Due to the lack of a response, the CCC has delayed the publication of its 2022 report. A sample of the annual CCC report can be found here. The data in the report is for the previous calendar year. A hearing date has not yet been set by the Freedom of Information Commission for the complaint.

This feast underscores Mary’s title as Theotokos, or “God-bearer,” a doctrine officially declared at the Council of Ephesus in 431. At the close of the council, the faithful filled the streets, joyfully proclaiming, “Praised be the Theotokos!” Mary’s title as “Mother of God” is rooted in the Incarnation, where, as St. Paul teaches: “...
