With A Father's Heart: Celebrating the Feast of Saint Joseph

Ordinarily celebrated on March 19, the Feast of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was celebrated in dioceses in the US on March 20 because March 19 fell on a Sunday.

As a diocese, let us continue to renew our devotion to the beloved, tender, accepting father Saint Joseph is to us (Patris Corde, 2020).

See below for a prayer to Saint Joseph.

This Lent, give your heart time to rest in the Most Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph. He wants to take care of you.

Saint Joseph, take care of us.

A special thank you to Monsignor Anthony S. Rosaforte,
Rector of the Cathedral of Saint Patrick
for sharing this image of a picture that hung in his childhood home.

A Prayer to Saint Joseph

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.

Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil. Amen.

Remembering September 11th- Mercies in Disguise
Sometimes, the best stories come from unexpected moments of inspiration. Recently, I had a unique experience attending Mass at St. Columba in Columbia. Originally, I hadn't planned on going there; the church I regularly attend had canceled the early Mass for the summer. At the same time, I was struggling to find a topic for this month's Four County Catholic article. Writer's block had hit me hard, and the deadlines were looming. During the Communion meditation, something remarkable happened. My eyes caught sight of a large plaque on the wall listing the corporal...

A Christmas Message in September: How ‘Good King Wenceslas’ Inspired His People to Follow God
Wenceslaus I is known by many titles: king, warrior, saint. Yet he is by far most popularly known as “Good King Wenceslas” in one of the most beloved Christmas carols of the 20th century. During his time, he was a beloved Bohemian prince and now he is the patron saint of the Czech Republic. Despite being remembered most during the Christmas season, however, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Wenceslaus, who lived 903–935 A.D., on Sept. 28. The carol, which has been sung by such beloved stars as Bing Crosby and continues to be performed by Christm...

Spend Some Quality Time with God - Ideas for Your Own Retreat Day
In a previous column titled “Got time to pray?” we discussed a few ideas for people who are short on time but recognize the need for prayer. But perhaps you’ve finally reached a place where you’re able to dedicate more time to prayer or even participate in a retreat. How blessed are you! “What if I have a morning or afternoon available to pray?” To start, find a place that is quiet, beautiful or speaks to you in a special way. If you can make it to a park, somewhere along water, somewhere in the mountains or woods, or even just a ca...
