My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
As we approach Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas I am reminded of the above verse from the Gospel of Luke which captures the essence of Thanksgiving by giving glory to God, heralds the anticipation and preparation of Advent as we await the birth of Jesus, and encapsulates the joy and goodwill associated with the Christmas season when we celebrate the birth of Christ.
This year, our diocese has been truly blessed, and there are several significant events that warrant our attention and gratitude.
First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt thanksgiving to Almighty God for the consecration of one of our own, Msgr. Kevin Randall, as the new Archbishop of Glenndálocha and Nuncio of Bangladesh. His journey to this esteemed position is a testament to his unwavering dedication, faith, and service to the people of God. Let us keep Archbishop Randall in our prayers as he takes on this immense responsibility and let us be inspired by his example as we serve our own community.
Additionally, we prayerfully look forward to, through God’s will and grace, the ordination of three young men to the priesthood in the coming year. This is a time of great joy for our diocese as we witness new shepherds being called to lead and guide our flock. These young men have spent years discerning their vocation and preparing themselves for a life of service to the Church. It is our responsibility to support them in their journey, both through prayer and by providing them with the necessary encouragement and resources. The advent of these new priests will enrich our community, bringing new perspectives and energy to our ministry.
Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas are closely intertwined. They offer us an opportunity to reflect on the many gifts we have received and the ultimate gift of love in Jesus Christ. Through Thanksgiving, we acknowledge the blessings and graces we have been granted throughout the year. It is a time to recognize the goodness of God in our lives, even in the face of challenges and difficulties, which are so intense at this time of geopolitical unrest and uncertainty. More than ever, we must pray for hate and distrust to be cast aside. We must let love prevail. Let faith lead the way toward respect and peace in our lives and across the world.
.As we transition to Advent, we turn our gaze towards the anticipation of Christ's coming. Just as the prophets of old longed for the Messiah, we too anticipate the birth of Jesus in our hearts and in our world. Advent reminds us to prepare our hearts to receive the greatest gift of all, the gift of Emmanuel, "God with us." Let us use this season to deepen our spiritual lives, seeking repentance and renewal.
Each Christmas is a time of great joy and unity, as we come together as a diocesan family to commemorate the profound gift of God's love for humanity. Let us remember that this season is not merely about exchanging gifts, but about recognizing the divine gift of Christ and sharing that gift with others through acts of love and kindness.
In this season of gratitude, anticipation, and celebration, may we be inspired by Archbishop Randall's commitment and the dedication of our future priests. Let us be thankful for the graces bestowed upon our diocese and open our hearts to receive the greatest gift of all, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May this season be a time of reflection, renewal, and outreach to those in need.
As we gather with family and friends, I pray that the Holy Spirit fills our hearts with love and joy. Together, as one diocesan family, let us walk in the footsteps of Christ, sharing His love and light with the world.
