A Timeless Tradition: The 45th Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols at the Cathedral

The 45th Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols was held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, on the Fourth Sunday of Advent.

One of the most festive ways to enjoy the beauty of the Cathedral of Saint Patrick, the event featured readings of sections of the Christmas story, choir music, and the singing of carols appropriate to the season. The evening began with a musical procession down the center aisle, setting the tone for a truly memorable celebration.

Prayers were offered by Father Julian Cuervo-Lozada, Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral.
Readings were proclaimed by The Cathedral Lectors.

Music was under the direction of Michael Steven Lianos, Director of Music. The following musical groups were featured, as they were accompanied by Chris Davenport, Organist and Michael Lianos, piano

  • The Norwich Diocesan Choir
  • The Cathedral Choir
  • Bells of Saint Patrick
  • Schola
  • St. Pats Singers

As a breathtaking finale, the Cathedral was bathed in candlelight held by all in attendance while singing "Silent Night," a moment of profound beauty and unity.

Special thanks to the many helpers behind the scenes who contributed to this beautiful event.

Together, they reveal who she is, where she is, and how she leads us to her Son. The Dedication of St. Mary Major On August 5, the Church celebrates the Dedication of St. Mary Major in Rome, the oldest and most important Marian basi...

From the Editor's Keyboard—Summertime Isn’t Over Yet
If you’re like me, you’ve probably noticed something. The Fourth of July comes and goes, the school supplies appear in the stores, and before you know it, people are talking about back-to-school shopping, football season, and pumpkin spice everything. Hold on a minute. It’s only the beginning of August. Summer isn’t over yet. There’s still plenty of time for one more cookout, one more day at the beach, or at least one more excuse to put off raking leaves. We have a tendency to rush through life, always looking ahead to what&rs...
