Pets to Be Blessed at Special Events this Weekend

FCC News Desk

In honor of the Feast of St. Francis, (Friday, October 4) a lover of all creatures, a Blessing of Pets will take place at two special events in the diocese this weekend.

Norwich

The public is invited to be a part of a special blessing for animals on October 4 in downtown Norwich.

A blessing of pets will take place on Friday, October 4, from 8 to 10 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Vincent de Paul Place, 120 Cliff Street in Norwich.

Clients of the soup kitchen and the general public are invited to attend with their dogs, cats, and other animal friends as special blessings and prayers are said.  Clergy from Grace Episcopal Church in Yantic and St. Joseph Roman Catholic Parish in downtown Norwich will officiate at this casual but spiritually uplifting event.

“Those who cannot bring their animal friend may bring a picture, or something that belongs to that animal such as a toy or leash,” said Jillian Corbin, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul Place.

Those attending should be certain their critter friends are appropriately leashed or in carriers as they will be close to other animals.

The special event happens on a day set aside by the Church to honor Saint Francis of Assisi (1182 - 1226), a patron saint most known for his love of all beings.

For more information about the blessing of the animals or St. Vincent de Paul Place, call (860) 889-7374, or visit www.svdpp.org

Cromwell

Additionally, all are invited to bring their pets to St. John Church, 5 St. John’s Court, Cromwell front parking lot on Saturday, October 5 at 11 a.m. to receive a special blessing.

Be part of this exciting event to thank God for all the joy your furry and feathered friends give you every day.
