Pray for the Pope: Join the Sacred Heart Novena June 19–27

Knights of Columbus Launches Sacred Heart Novena for Pope Leo XIV

New Haven, Conn. — The Knights of Columbus have announced a special novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the intention of Pope Leo XIV, beginning June 19—his anniversary of priestly ordination—and concluding June 27, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart.

Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly is encouraging Knights, their families, and all people of goodwill to participate in the novena and to submit personal

prayer intentions, which he will personally bring to Rome later this Jubilee Year. Participants are also invited to enthrone the Sacred Heart in their homes, with resources available at shopcatholicinfo.com.

The initiative marks the 350th anniversary of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque’s final vision of Jesus’ Sacred Heart, a devotion that continues to inspire millions. The novena also complements the Knights’ ongoing Pilgrim Icon Program, now featuring a traveling icon of the Sacred Heart modeled after the 1767 painting by Pompeo Batoni.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NOVENA FOR THE PONTIFICATE AND INTENTIONS OF POPE LEO XIV

Novena Prayers
I. For the Pontificate of Pope Leo XIV

O my Jesus, you have said: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Behold I knock, I seek and ask that you bless the ministry of Pope Leo XIV and give him the grace to embody Christ’s love and wisdom as he shepherds your flock, the Church.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

II. For the Holy Father’s Prayer Intentions

O my Jesus, you have said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” Behold, in your name, I ask the Father for the grace that the world might grow in compassion, and that each one of us might find consolation in a personal relationship with Jesus, and from his heart, learn to have compassion on the world.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

III. For Our Personal Intentions

O my Jesus, you have said: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace that (add your own personal intentions here).

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the graces which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender Mother and ours. Amen.

Unwrapping the Stories Behind Our Favorite Carols
When my children were in grade school, we hosted several caroling parties in December. Family and friends would pile into the house, and I’d hand out little songbooks I had put together. After a short practice session in the living room, where I could see the Cathedral from the window, we would set out into the neighborhood. We stopped at houses along the way, including the rectory and the bishop’s house, before ending at Sheltering Arms, a senior residence in Norwich. The night always ended back at home with mugs of hot chocolate and slow cookers f...
