Fourth Sunday of Advent- Love

As we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent our Advent journey comes to a close. The patient (or impatient) preparation and waiting now lies behind us and all that we did (or did not do) is history.  We move forward together into the Christmas Season overflowing with God’s love – an unconditional love that was freely given to all of us undeserving human beings. This gift was given to us so that, like all good gifts, we would share it with others.

How are we going to share the amazing gift of God’s love for humankind this Christmas?

  • Look for ways to do random acts of kindness for people around you.
  • Think about conversation starters you can initiate with strangers
  • Put your phone away when in elevators, in lines, and in spaces where people wait.
  • Address your cashier or waitress by name, acknowledging him or her as a person.
  • When you see someone who lights up the room, tell them they radiate Christ.
  • Thank someone you see offering another person assistance.
  • Go out of your way to be friendly and nice, role modeling the Father’s love.
  • Put someone else’s needs before your own without anyone knowing it.

When we do any of these things, we are bringing the Father’s love, personally, to people and living out the commandment He left for us – Love one another!  The more we practice sharing that love, the more natural it will be for us to give.  We will no longer have to force ourselves to reach out to our brothers and sisters rather it will come naturally. When we understand the importance of God’s love in our lives and see it as the ultimate gift we can receive, then its value can only multiply when we share that love with others.

It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name He may give you. This I command you:
Love one another.

John15: 16-17
