Diocese to Honor Educators

Xavier Graduate Chosen as Homilist

The 23rd  ANNUAL Diocesan Mass for Those Dedicated to Education will take place 8:45 am on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich.

Each year this special Mass is held to honor teachers, administrators and support staff from private, parochial and public schools of all faiths from across the Four Counties that comprise the Diocese of Norwich.

This year the homilist will be newly ordained Reverend Francis Gilbert, Parochial Vicar of Saint Patrick in East Hampton and Saint Bridget in Moodus.   Father Frank, ordained a little over two months ago (June 30th, 2018) is a former Lieutenant in the United States Navy.  His last position before heading off to seminary was as an employee at Millstone Nuclear Power plant in the Instrument and Controls Department.

Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D., Bishop of Norwich will be the Celebrant and will lead the congregation in praying for greater knowledge, understanding, judgement, courage and wisdom.

Clearly, education is the long term answer to much of the unrest and discord in the world – including “our world” here in Eastern Connecticut.

It lifts the spirit to see teachers and students together recognizing the ever more critical importance of education.

Hopefully you will find the time to join us.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Leo XIV blessed two lambs in the Urban VIII Chapel at the Vatican Jan. 21, the feast of St. Agnes, a Roman martyr who is often depicted with a lamb. Agnes also is a derivative of the Latin word for lamb, "agnus." The lambs are raised by Trappist monks outside Rome, and they are bound and placed in baskets to prevent them from running away during the blessing. They are decorated with red and white flowers and blessed in a formal ceremony at the Basilica of St. Agnes and by the pope at the Vatican.  Benedictine nuns at the Monas...
