St. Edward the Confessor Church in Stafford Springs recently re-installed several restored stained glass windows that adorn its church building.
Bovard Stained Glass Studio performed the work, which included the full restoration of the stained glass windows on the front façade of the church, which had become bulged and the glass cracked from deterioration over 80 years. The stained glass was removed from the church back in February and returned to Bovard’s Studio for repair (stained glass cannot be worked on on-site due to lead contamination issues).
Unlike many small local studios, Bovard Stained Glass Studio has a full woodworking shop and addressed any damaged sections of the exterior wood frames. St Edward’s wood frames had become damaged prematurely because the protective glass had been installed incorrectly (completely sealed), which lead to moisture buildup. The moisture was trapped and caused some minor wood rot and premature paint failure.
Bovard Stained Glass also restored the stained glass windows at St Michael’s Church in Pawcatuck.
Below is a photo of the windows of St. Edward the Confessor sealed off in the winter while the work was being done.
