The Presentation Of the Lord-Candlemas

On Tuesday, February 2nd at 7PM, Fr. Michael Bovino celebrated the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas) in a special way. In the old Catholic calendar, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord was the official end to the Christmas Season. It was traditional to have a blessing of candles at the beginning of Mass because of the words given to Simeon by the Holy Spirit when Jesus was presented to him: “…a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” There was special music that accompanied this beautiful liturgy.

On August 16th, the Sunday after the Solemnity of the Assumption, parishioners of Saint Joseph Church in Rockville were invited to bring flowers, herbs, and fruits to be blessed after the 10 am Mass as they gathered together for the annual St. Joseph’s Parish Picnic. The weather was beautiful, and it proved to be a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to relax, reconnect, and celebrate the spirit of the parish community!
