Blessing of the Pets Invokes the Spirit of St. Francis of Assisi

The Feast of Saint Francis occurs each October and commemorates the life of Saint Francis, who was born in the 12th century and is the patron saint of all animals. Many churches celebrate and honor Saint Francis by offering services in which animals are blessed and prayed for. It is a day to give thanks to God for His wonderful works,

Father Richard Brenton, Pastor of St. Andrews Colcehester, blessing the animals.

Why Celibacy?
Understanding the Spiritual and Practical Purpose of Priestly Celibacy Once in a while, a well-meaning parishioner will suggest to me, “Father, don’t you think we would have more priests if we eliminated the requirement for priestly celibacy?” I very much understand the idea behind the question. But I do not hesitate for even a moment in responding that priestly celibacy is critical for our Church.
