On Monday, October 5, pilgrims from across the Diocese of Norwich traveled to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, for a day of prayer, reflection and fellowship in celebration of the feast of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska.
Led by Bishop Richard Reidy, the pilgrimage brought together parishioners primarily from the shoreline and Middletown areas, reflecting the Diocese's continued efforts to offer spiritual opportunities to the faithful throughout its four counties.
The picturesque Berkshire Mountains provided a magnificent backdrop for the day's celebration. Surrounded by vibrant autumn foliage and blessed with beautiful sunshine, pilgrims gathered at the shrine's outdoor altar, where Bishop Reidy celebrated Mass in honor of St. Faustina, the Polish religious sister whose revelations helped spread the message of God's boundless mercy throughout the world.
The National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, entrusted to the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception, welcomes pilgrims seeking to deepen their understanding of Christ's mercy and draw closer to Him through prayer and the sacraments.
Throughout the visit, pilgrims had opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration, Confession and veneration of St. Faustina's relics, embracing the spiritual significance of the feast day.
The pilgrimage also offered time for fellowship, shared meals and visits to the shrine's gift shop, where many purchased religious articles and devotional items to bring home as reminders of their experience.
As the group departed Stockbridge, the joy of the day was evident in the smiles and grateful spirits of those returning home.
More than a visit to a beautiful sacred destination, the pilgrimage was an opportunity for the faithful to strengthen their relationship with Christ, deepen their devotion to Divine Mercy and experience the fellowship of the wider diocesan community.
It was a fitting celebration of St. Faustina's enduring message, one that continues to invite the faithful to place their trust in the infinite mercy of God.
Jesus, I trust in You!
