Layette Program Benefits Catholic Charities

Each year we invite women of our parishes to become members of the Norwich Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.  Membership is open to all women in the Diocese of Norwich.

This membership collection not only enrolls you as a member of the Norwich Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, but also provides 60% of the total collected to Catholic Charities (over the years we have given many thousands of dollars to Catholic Charities); 5% to the National Council of Catholic Women; 15% to the district to which your affiliated organization belongs; and 20% to the Norwich Diocesan Council of Catholic Women treasury.

The Norwich Diocesan Council of Catholic Women acts through its affiliated organizations to support, empower, and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership, and service.  NDCCW programs respond with Gospel values to the needs of the Church and society in the modern world.

The NDCCW also conducts the following programs:

  • Layette Program established more than 40 years ago; a collection of infant and toddler clothes, diapers, handmade quilts and blankets to be distributed by Catholic Charities
  • We partner with Catholic Relief Services and have contributed thousands of dollars to their Water for Life Project to provide clean water to Third World countries.
  • Boxes of Joy, a project of Cross Catholic Outreach to provide children in third world countries with gifts for Christmas
  • Affiliates are involved in many projects in their own parishes.

Our Membership Drive runs through the months of September and October.  The membership dues are $5.00.  You may use the form below to become a member or renew your membership.  Contact JoAnn Shine for more information at (860) 450-9179 or pshine3605@charter.net.

71st Annual Blessing of the Fleet Remembers Local Fishermen, Offers Prayers for Crews
A prayerful remembrance of local fishermen lost to the sea, sadly including this past year, attracted a large crowd to Saint Mary Church and the town fishing dock on Sunday, July 26, in Stonington Borough.  The gatherings were part of the 71st annual Blessing of the Fleet, and offered Bishop Richard Reidy of the Diocese of Norwich the opportunity to meet with captains and crews of the local fishery and confer blessings on them for a safe season, and a bountiful catch. The tradition is well-woven into the Stonington Borough fishing community, which over the past y...
