Palm Sunday Concert Planned at Cathedral of St. Patrick

On Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., the Cathedral of St. Patrick will resonate with the stirring sounds of sacred music as the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus present a special Palm Sunday concert.

Under the direction of Music Director and Conductor Toshiyuki Shimada and Chorus Director Daniel McDavitt, the evening promises a moving meditation through music at the threshold of Holy Week.

The concert will feature Dan Forrest’s Requiem, a profound and contemporary work known for its striking beauty and emotional depth. Since its premiere, the piece has captivated audiences worldwide with its luminous harmonies and heartfelt expression of hope amid sorrow.

Also on the program is Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei, his choral arrangement of the beloved Adagio for Strings. Ethereal and deeply prayerful, the work unfolds with a quiet intensity that invites reflection and reverence. Performed with strings, it is sure to envelop listeners in a powerful and contemplative atmosphere.

Set within the magnificent acoustics of the Cathedral, these sacred masterpieces promise a transcendent musical experience fitting for Palm Sunday— a time when the Church enters into the solemn beauty of Christ’s Passion and prepares for the joy of Easter.

Admission is free, but tickets must be reserved in advance.
