Balancing Motherhood and Education with Help from the Margaret L. Keller Education Fund

Each year, the Margaret L. Keller Education Endowment Fund, within the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Norwich, Inc, awards a single mother with financial aid to attend a regionally accredited, nonprofit educational institution licensed to operate in Connecticut. The Fund seeks to provide hard-working single mothers with the skills necessary to assist them in living independent, productive lives.

This year, the foundation is happy to report that Paige Cadogan of New London will be receiving tuition assistance as she embarks on her final year of studies at Eastern Connecticut State University. Paige has chosen to major in social work because she has, “always had a passion for helping people and making a difference in my community.”

Paige is very appreciative of this award sharing that “Receiving this grant has significantly alleviated my financial burden, allowing me to focus more on my studies and my role as a mother.” While Paige has three daughters, ranging in age from 1 to 5, she has found that  “balancing college and parenting has been challenging but rewarding; I’ve learned to manage my time effectively and prioritize my responsibilities.” Paige takes her motivation from her three children, Chyna, Chyra and Chyla, “Their well-being motivates me to succeed academically and professionally in social work, so I can provide them with a better future.”

Previously, Paige received her associate’s degree from Three Rivers Community College. We are so impressed by Paige’s intelligence, work ethic, and devotion to her community and family. We know that she will have a positive impact on many as a social worker and we wish her great success on her journey!

The Margaret L. Keller Education Endowment Fund was established in March 2016 by Jacqueline Keller, former Diocesan Communications Director, in memory of her mother. Anyone interested in donating to this endowment may contact Catholic Foundation Executive Director, Mary Ellen Mahoney at (860) 886-1928 ext. 113 or email at memahoney@norwichdiocese.net.

Bishop Reidy Thanks the Faithful and Invites All to Pray a Pentecost Novena
My dear friends in Christ, Thank you all very much for your very warm welcome of me as your new Bishop.  As I meet with priests, deacons, and parishioners and make my way around the Diocese to parish Masses, Confirmations, school visits, Holy Hours, and dinner events, I am reminded how fortunate I am to be with you in our diocese.  Thank you for all you do. I am also acutely aware that all the good I hope to do together with you for God and His people depends utterly on God's grace. To that end, I am endeavoring to keep in mind the necessity of prayer...

St. Rita of Cascia: Patroness of the Impossible- Feast Day May 22
St. Rita of Cascia: Patroness of the Impossible Feast Day: May 22 In the quiet hills of 14th-century Italy, a woman named Rita lived a life marked by hardship, heartbreak, and, ultimately, holiness. Born in the town of Roccaporena, Rita longed from an early age to enter religious life. But in obedience to her parents, she married a man known for his temper and violent tendencies. Her life as a wife and mother was not easy, but through prayer and patience, Rita brought peace to her home, even softening her husband’s heart before his tragic death. After losing bo...

The Promise of the Ascension
Forty days after Easter Sunday, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. While often seen as a quiet moment between the joy of the Resurrection and the fire of Pentecost, Ascension Thursday is much more than a transition. It is a cornerstone of our Christian hope. As recorded in the Acts of the Apostles, Jesus, after appearing to His disciples and speaking to them about the Kingdom of God, is “lifted up, and a cloud took Him from their sight” (Acts 1:9). His Ascension does not mark the end of His presence but the beginn...
