Local Organizations Honored with Catholic Campaign for Human Development Grants

On December 9, 2024, Archbishop Christopher Coyne, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Norwich, distributed Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) grants to several local organizations dedicated to serving those in need across the region. These grants, funded through the generosity of parishioners in the diocese, will help alleviate poverty and support life-changing programs in our communities.

The following organizations were awarded grants for their exceptional service:

Birthright of Greater Norwich, Inc., New London
Providing vital support to women facing unplanned pregnancies, Birthright of Greater Norwich offers resources and compassionate care to affirm life.

Community of Hope-Kindness Connection, Gales Ferry
The Kindness Connection offers timely acts of kindness to those in need, providing essential support such as groceries, toiletries, clothing, toilet paper, prayer, and emotional care during their most challenging moments.

Hope House, Mystic
A refuge for women in crisis, providing a safe, supportive environment where they can heal from past traumas and rebuild their lives. With a focus on dignity, community, and faith, the ministry helps women rediscover hope and equips them with tools to create a brighter future.

Malta, Inc.-Street Ministry, Old Lyme
This program reaches out to individuals experiencing homelessness, offering food, care, and resources to restore dignity and hope.

Malta Transitional Housing, Old Lyme
In addition to street ministry, Malta Transitional Housing provides a secure environment for individuals transitioning to permanent housing.

Martin House, Inc., Norwich
Committed to creating a supportive community for individuals with limited income, including those recovering from mental illness and addictions, to rebuild lives with dignity. Providing housing, nutritious meals, a safe environment, and essential services to men and women in need.

St. Vincent de Paul Place, Middletown
Provides vital services such as nutritious meals, supportive housing, and access to essential resources for those in need, fostering stability and self-sufficiency. By addressing immediate needs and offering long-term support, it continues the mission of hope and care inspired by its namesake.

St. Vincent de Paul Place, Norwich
Provides food, hygiene supplies, and support to individuals and families experiencing challenges like homelessness, unemployment, and addiction. Through the dedication of volunteers, we offer hot meals, groceries, case management, and essential services at no cost to those in need.

Thames River Community Service, Inc., Norwich
Thames River Community Service empowers families through housing and supportive services, helping them overcome barriers to independence.

These organizations embody the mission of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the domestic anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. By supporting programs that address the root causes of poverty, CCHD helps transform lives and create stronger communities.

The grants are a testament to the Diocese of Norwich’s commitment to carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ by serving “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40). Through these vital programs, parishioners across the diocese help make a profound impact on those in need.
