Mass at Midnight Returns to Saint Patrick Cathedral This Christmas Eve

Diocese Welcomes All to Midnight Mass

There is something unforgettable about a church filled in the quiet hours of Christmas Eve, when the city has gone still and the only sound is familiar carols rising into the rafters. This year, the Diocese of Norwich invites you to experience that moment again as Mass at Midnight returns to the Cathedral of Saint Patrick on Christmas Eve.

The Most Reverend Richard F. Reidy will be the celebrant. Plan to arrive early, as the Cathedral choir will begin singing Christmas carols about 30 minutes before Mass begins, helping to prepare hearts for the joy of the Lord’s Nativity.

But Christmas at the Cathedral is more than one night. The Diocese also invites the faithful to two additional liturgies that beautifully frame the season with scripture, sacred music, and prayer.

Lessons and Carols

On Sunday, December 21, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., the Cathedral will host a Festival of Lessons and Carols (213 Broadway, Norwich). This service combines readings from Scripture with sacred music and beloved Christmas carols, offering a peaceful and uplifting way to enter the final days of Advent.

Epiphany Jubilee Prayer, Adoration, and Confessions

As the Jubilee Year proclaimed by Pope Francis draws to a close at Epiphany, the Cathedral will offer a special opportunity for the faithful to receive Holy Year graces. On Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., all are invited to the Cathedral for Eucharistic Adoration, prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours, and Confessions.

The Diocese invites you to join Bishop Reidy and diocesan priests for this Epiphany observance—an intentional moment to pray, seek the Lord’s mercy, and participate in the Jubilee graces, including Indulgences, available to pilgrims at Saint Patrick Cathedral.

Livestream and Broadcast Options

For those who are unable to attend in person, livestreams are planned for Lessons and Carols, Mass at Midnight, and the Epiphany Jubilee observance and will be available on the Diocesan and Cathedral websites.

Should circumstances prevent you from attending Midnight Mass, the Communications Office is once again partnering with radio stations WICH-1310 AM & 94.5 FM to broadcast the Mass in its entirety.  We are truly blessed with this ongoing gift from Hall Communications.

The beauty of the cathedral can be experienced year-round and will remain fully decorated until the Solemnity of the Epiphany on January 4, 2026. Masses are daily at 7 AM and noon.

Cherish What is Simple; Be in Awe of What Is Great
In a recent homily, my pastor said something that made an impression on me and which I have tried to remember as I go about my daily life – ‘Joy is our response to God’s love!’ With so much turmoil in the world, rising costs of everything, and depressing news cycles, it is easy to lose sight of the ordinary sparks of joy that surround us daily and succumb to negativity and pessimism. In doing so, we also miss the chance to respond to the goodness of God’s love for us. I recall a book I discovered during the height of the pandemic by Christop...
