Chapel Completed at New Saint Andrew Cemetery in Colchester

An old storage area has been transformed into a bright and inviting chapel at the New Saint Andrew Cemetery in Colchester.

Guardian Angels Parish clergy, Pastor Fr. Marek Masnicki and Parochial Vicar Fr. Richard Breton, as well as a dozen other visitors, attended the short ceremony on Oct. 29.

The Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D., Bishop of Norwich, blessed the chapel with holy water.

"Let us ask the Lord, the all powerful Father, to continue to strengthen us and to thank Him earnestly for the completion of this holy project," the bishop said.

The bishop read from the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians:

"For we are God's co-workers. You are God's field, God's building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it."

The new chapel took several years to complete. Parishioners volunteered their time and material to expand the old stone equipment shed into a chapel. Inside are several statues, photos and other relics.

Guardian Angels Parish combines the former parishes of St. Andrew in Colchester and St. Francis of Assisi in Lebanon.

Why August Belongs to Mary
Ask most Catholics which month belongs to Mary, and they will answer without hesitation: May. They are right. But August has a compelling claim of its own. Together, they reveal who she is, where she is, and how she leads us to her Son. The Dedication of St. Mary Major On August 5, the Church celebrates the Dedication of St. Mary Major in Rome, the oldest and most important Marian basi...

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) explains: “Whenever ... August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption ... falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.” The USCCB’s 2026 liturgical guidance also confirms th...
