A Summer Symphony of Faith
From the Editor's Keyboard
When I say this issue sings, I mean it literally.
The July/August edition of the Four County Catholic is hot off the press—and whether you’re reading from a porch swing or poolside chair, I promise there’s something inside that will lift your spirit and maybe even make you hum a tune or two.
Our cover story features Dr. Anne Halloran Tortora, a music educator whose life has been a crescendo of faith, talent, and service. A Grammy quarterfinalist (yes, those Grammys!), she’s shaping souls at Saint Bernard School through the power of music and reminding us that true harmony happens when our lives align with God’s will. It’s a feature as inspiring as it is lyrical.
We also begin this issue with a beautiful column from our bishop, the Most Reverend Richard F. Reidy, on page 3. In it, he invites us to rediscover the peace that comes from quiet moments with the Lord—especially during the slower rhythms of summer. It’s a heartfelt reflection on prayer, presence, and spiritual renewal, and I encourage you to start there.
This issue also offers:
- A heartfelt look at priestly celibacy by Fr. Jeffrey Ellis—an honest, thoughtful reflection on what it means to live as an alter Christus.
- A moving column on standing with your spouse through sorrow, by Mary-Jo McLaughlin.
- A behind-the-scenes visit to the Padre Pio Foundation of America—right here in Cromwell.
- New pastoral appointments, upcoming events, and snapshots from across the diocese.
- A spotlight on this year’s Seton Honorees—three educators turning classrooms into sanctuaries of grace.
This issue is like summer itself: rich with beauty, full of light, and grounded in renewal.
So take a break. Slow down. And let these pages bring you closer to the stories and people who make our diocese so wonderfully alive in faith.
And hey—if you’ve ever wanted to help tell those stories, I have a little invitation waiting for you on page 5…
Yours in pixels and print,
Wayne Gignac
