It was a momentous day September 23rd, as we prayed our 40 Days For Life sidewalk vigil for the first time at the new Planned Parenthood in New London on 467 Ocean Ave.

I was joined by Pat Coventry, Parish pro-life rep from St. Patrick’s in Mystic, and Carolyn Nelson, Parish pro-life rep from Our Lady of Lourdes in Gales Ferry. We prayed Rosaries as we walked back and forth on the sidewalk like we’ve always done in Norwich. But it was much different. As opposed to being a sleepy sidestreet, Ocean Avenue has a tremendous amount of traffic. And the response was very positive. Over 90% of cars passing by were tooting their horns and waving and giving thumbs up. It was like they were happy that we were witnessing against this disturbing operation that was placed on their beautiful historic residential street. That they didn’t want this in their city and their government leaders should be ashamed.

I suspect it was the result of all the incredible formation that Father Castaldi had ingrained among his people over his 37 years as pastor of St. Joseph’s. He’s upset and thinks it’s awful. And so we pray. For 39 more days. For mothers to choose life. To save innocent babies' lives. And for the closing of these two Planned Parenthood’s in our Sacred Diocese. 

We invite you to come down and pray during daylight hours on any day. I’m going to try to get down there once or twice a week. It’s a very powerful, fulfilling experience. A big part of being a Catholic. God bless you.
