NORWICH — The Diocese of Norwich Outreach to Haiti celebrated its 40th anniversary on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick church hall, marking four decades of providing critical aid, healthcare, and educational support to communities in Haiti.
A Blessing and Message from Bishop Reidy
Diocese of Norwich Outreach to Haiti Executive Director Sandra Chipanta speaking at the 40th Anniversary Celebration.
The event began with a blessing and message from Richard F. Reidy, Bishop of Norwich, who recognized the ministry's essential work. Addressing attendees, Bishop Reidy reflected on the core mission of Outreach to Haiti: ministering to both the spiritual and physical needs of residents living in the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince.
Through programs in the Christ the King neighborhood and 14 twinned parish communities across U.S. dioceses, the ministry provides vital medical care, dental services, nutritional supplements, educational opportunities and more.
"This is an eventful time as Haiti is facing a prolonged period of political instability and gang violence, not witnessed in more than fifty years," Bishop Reidy noted, emphasizing the agency's resolve to continue walking alongside Haitian families during difficult times. "Our mission in Haiti is a living reminder that we are here to serve others, as Christ continuously inspires us to do. By living out the Gospel, we help Haitians to access life's essentials and to know that God has not forgotten them."
