Latest Information Regarding Precautions and Cancellations due to COVID-19(coronavirus)

As the concern over the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to evolve, the Diocese is closely monitoring the situation and consulting with state and local officials as well as health professionals as needed in order to respond in a responsible way.

Some ministry events have been cancelled or postponed, extra precautions have been instituted where necessary.

Parish and diocesan schools are following all of the guidelines set forth by the Connecticut State Department of Health and the CDC.  Since we are a system of schools, not a school system per se, the schools follow all of the protocol set forth by the local district in which the school is located.  All of our schools will be administering Distance Learning while the students are at home.

Public Masses ARE NOT being cancelled at this time.  As always, those who are ill are dispensed of the obligation to attend Mass and out of charity for others ought not attend.

For those who are part of a vulnerable population (seniors or those who have chronic illnesses, immune system deficiencies or underlying health conditions, AND those who care for them and their children, the obligation to attend Sunday Mass is commuted by performing one of four devotions AND making an Act of Spiritual Communion as outlined HERE

To be fully informed parishioners are encouraged to visit NorwichDiocese.org/Coronavirus often as we work our way through the days and weeks to come.

Bishop Cote has asked the faithful to join him in praying for an end to this illness around the world as well as for those who are suffering with it and that scientists, health professionals, public officials, and all who are serving the common good in this difficult and uncertain time be filled with wisdom and granted success in their efforts.

Should you have any questions regarding these precautions at Mass or other parish events please speak with your pastor.

The Diocese of Norwich is continually monitoring this developing situation, consulting with health care professionals and experts when appropriate. We will update you as changes warrant.

Living the Longing: Finding God in the Quiet of Advent- A Reflection by Bishop Reidy
I love the Advent Season. I love it not just for what it leads to – the joyful celebration of Christ’s birth at Bethlehem. I love Advent for itself: a season of longing, expectation, and hope. I think that, in a way, the entirety of life is like Advent. There is, deep within us, a longing for God and, as Saint Augustine says, our hearts are restless until they rest in God. That longing and restlessness will not be entirely satisfied until we reach Heaven. Until then, in this life, many things compete for our attention. Those things variously attract us, distr...

Padre Pio’s Devotional Joy Leads Us to the Christmas Open House
*Padre Pio and the Humble Mystery of the Incarnation* For Padre Pio, the heart of December was never noise or celebration—it was wonder. He was profoundly moved by the mystery of the Incarnation, the moment when God chose to enter the world in the smallest and simplest of forms. The humility of the Christ Child touched him deeply. Witnesses often noted that even the mention of the Infant Jesus brought a tenderness to his face and a quiet reverence to his voice. Though Padre Pio did not write extensively about the liturgical days leading up to Christmas, th...

Celebrating the Retirement of Mary Ellen Mahoney After more than 12 years of faithful service, the Diocese of Norwich is celebrating the retirement of Mary Ellen Mahoney, who joined us on March 13, 2013, and quickly became one of the most trusted, steady, and mission-driven members of our diocesan family.
