40 Days for Life: A Powerful Witness for Life in Norwich

The 40 Days for Life campaign is a global, grassroots initiative that seeks to end abortion through prayer, fasting, community outreach, and peaceful vigil. Since its inception, this movement has inspired individuals from all walks of life to come together and bear witness to the sanctity of life.

Participants in the campaign commit to 40 days of continuous prayer and peaceful presence outside abortion facilities, seeking to save lives and change hearts.

In Norwich, Connecticut, this effort is being led by Fr. Brian Maxwell, with the continued support of parishioners and parishes from across the Diocese of Norwich.

Their goal is clear: to save babies from abortion and to ultimately close the Planned Parenthood facility located at 12 Case Street, where abortions are performed.

As the Norwich campaign reaches its halfway point, there is a palpable sense of hope and determination among those involved. One recent example of this shared commitment occurred when 19 students from The Academy of the Holy Family in Baltic, CT, joined the prayer vigil.

The group spent time together in front of the clinic praying the Rosary, reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and ended their vigil by singing the hymn “Immaculate Mary.”

The movement isn’t just about protest— it is about compassion, love, and offering alternatives to those in crisis. Participants aim to reach out with respect and understanding to women considering abortion, letting them know that they are not alone and that life-affirming support is available. The hope is to offer a message of mercy, encouraging others to choose life for their unborn children.

As the campaign progresses, there is great optimism that the power of prayer and community action can bring lasting change. Parishioners and clergy continue to join in, knowing that every prayer, every vigil, and every effort brings them one step closer to their goal: the protection of the unborn and the closure of the abortion facility at 12 Case Street.

The 40 Days for Life campaign in Norwich continues to offer regular prayer vigils outside Planned Parenthood, creating a peaceful, prayerful presence in the community.
