Job Title: Youth and Young Adult Minister
Location: Diocese of Norwich
Reports to: Director of Evangelization Ministry
Position: 21 Hours per week
Job Summary
The Youth and Young Adult Minister for the Diocese of Norwich serves by developing, supporting, and coordinating comprehensive ministry efforts to engage and evangelize youth (grades 6–12) and young adults (ages 18–39) across the diocese. This role fosters discipleship, leadership, and community through formation, service, liturgy, and fellowship, in alignment with the mission of the Catholic Church.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Ministry (Grades 6–12):
- Develop diocesan-wide youth events (e.g., youth day, retreats, youth ministry days with the Bishop, conferences).
- Support and train parish youth ministers and adult volunteers in youth ministry best practices.
- Promote Catholic identity, leadership development, and discipleship among youth.
- Coordinate diocesan participation in regional and national events (e.g., Steubenville Conferences, NCYC).
- Provide consultation and resources for parish-based youth ministry programs.
- Maintain accurate records for CYO Sports programs, coordinate Play Like A Champion Today™ trainings, and plan diocesan sports events.
Young Adult Ministry (Ages 18–39):
- Develop diocesan-wide young adult events such as the annual Young Adult Mass with the Bishop.
- Collaborate with parishes, campus ministries, Crossroads 4 Christ, and other apostolates.
- Develop communication strategies using email, social media, and website platforms.
Collaboration and Administration:
- Work closely with other diocesan offices (e.g., Vocations, Catholic Schools, Communications, Safe Environments).
- Serve as a resource and consultant to parishes for youth and young adult ministry.
- Ensure Safe Environment compliance and manage background checks for volunteers.
- Maintain diocesan records and event registrations.
Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong personal faith and commitment to Church teaching.
- Passion for working with young people.
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in youth and/or young adult ministry, preferably in a parish or diocesan setting.
- Proven ability to plan and implement events, retreats, and programs.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in digital communication and social media outreach.
- Ability to travel throughout the diocese and work evenings/weekends as needed.
Working Conditions
- Office-based position with regular travel to parishes and event sites.
- Evening and weekend work required, particularly during major events.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
