Job Description

At St. Luke Church, we are dedicated to nurturing the spiritual, emotional, and social growth of our youth. We believe that our youth are not just the future of the Church, but a vital and vibrant part of its present.

A Catholic Youth Minister fosters the spiritual growth of youth in grades 8–12 by planning engaging, faithful programming, including a monthly Teen Mass and meetings with activities and/or service projects, while always remaining in compliance with Safe Environment policies.

The youth minister will have a pivotal role in guiding, mentoring, and inspiring our middle and high school students through their formative years. This position is not just a job, but a calling—an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people.

Qualifications

  • A practicing Catholic in good standing with a passion for youth ministry.
  • Strong personal faith and understanding of Catholic teachings.
  • Promote Sunday Mass attendance by word and example.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Proven leadership and excellent organizational skills for managing events, programming, and teams of people.
  • Creativity and willingness to try new things to reach youth with the Gospel.
  • Availability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient in using technology and social media to engage youth.
  • College degree with a focus in Catholic religion, theology, or a related field, or experience in youth ministry preferred. A high school diploma is required.
  • Successful completion of Safe Environment training and background check required.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and lead monthly youth group meetings.
  • Incorporate prayer, faith sharing, and themes of Catholic Social Teaching into all youth activities.
  • Hold a monthly Teen Mass where teens serve as readers, ushers, and assist with the offertory.
  • Plan and organize special events including children’s activities at the Parish Picnic and Christmas Bazaar, a youth group Lenten class for Faith Formation, and an Easter Egg Hunt.
  • Work collaboratively with church staff and volunteers.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and keep them informed about upcoming events and activities.
  • Use technology and social media to engage and reach youth.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all youth.
  • Encourage youth participation in church services and parish activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make necessary adjustments.

Position Details

This is a part-time stipend position of 15 hours per month. The monthly stipend is $300–$500, depending on experience.
