A Month of Compassion: Film Events to Support St. Vincent de Paul Place

Answering Christ’s Call to Serve

As Catholics, we are called to see Christ in the faces of the most vulnerable among us. The Gospel of Matthew reminds us, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).

This February, we have a powerful opportunity to put our faith into action—raising awareness of the homelessness crisis and providing support for those in need. Throughout the month, the community is invited to two significant film events that shine a light on the struggles faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. These events will not only educate but also inspire action to help those living on the margins of society.

Free Documentary Screening – Americans with No Address

  • Date: Monday, February 10, 2025
  • Time: 5:30 PM
  • Location: Otis Library

The month begins with a free screening of Americans with No Address, a compelling documentary that takes a heartfelt look at homelessness in the United States. The film shares real stories of hardship while offering hope through impactful solutions. Through the voices of those who have lived it and the insights of experts, this film challenges us to see the humanity behind the statistics.

This event is presented in collaboration with the Norwich Area Interfaith Association and Otis Library, emphasizing the importance of community partnerships in addressing social justice issues.

How You Can Help

All are welcome to attend this free event. Attendees are encouraged to bring much-needed donations to support the homeless community. Suggested items include:

  • Shampoos
  • Soap
  • Waterless soap cloths
  • Deodorants
  • Flashlights

Even small contributions can make a tangible difference in the lives of those struggling to meet their basic needs.

Special Fundraising Premiere – No Address

  • Date: Thursday, February 27, 2025
  • Time: Doors open at 6:30 PM | Film begins at 7:00 PM
  • Location: AMC Theater, Lisbon

Later in the month, we invite you to a special fundraising premiere of No Address, a moving film that offers a powerful, unfiltered look at the realities of homelessness. This film challenges misconceptions and deepens our understanding of this urgent crisis.

More than just a screening, this event serves as a call to action—an opportunity for our community to come together in support of those who have nowhere else to turn.

Supporting St. Vincent de Paul Place

The premiere is made possible through a collaboration between the Norwich Area Interfaith Association and the Norwich Race Equity Committee, with generous sponsorship from:

  • Sankofa Leadership and Education, Inc.
  • The Sikh Art Gallery
  • The Norwich branch of the NAACP
  • The Robertsine Duncan Youth Council
  • The Unitarian Universalists

All proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit St. Vincent de Paul Place, a vital resource for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in our community. Year-round, St. Vincent de Paul Place provides hot meals, critical services, and compassionate support—serving not just as a shelter, but as a source of dignity and hope.

Join Us in This Month of Reflection and Action

  • Attend the free screening on February 10, bring a donation, and learn more about the challenges of homelessness.
  • Purchase a ticket to the February 27 premiere, knowing that your support will help St. Vincent de Paul Place continue its mission of service.

Above all, let us remember that we are all part of one human family, called to care for one another in the spirit of Christ’s love. May these events open our eyes, move our hearts, and inspire us to act with faith and compassion.
