A local Scout’s commitment to serving others is making a remarkable impact— and there is still one final opportunity to help!
Anthony DePaola, a member of Boy Scout Troop 13 in Colchester, launched a food drive benefiting Catholic Charities of Norwich as his Eagle Scout service project. His ambitious goal is to collect one ton (2,000 pounds) of non-perishable food to help support individuals and families experiencing food insecurity throughout eastern Connecticut.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of parishioners and community members, the project has already collected 1,275 pounds of food, bringing Anthony to within 725 pounds of his 2,000-pound goal.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated so far,” Anthony said. “The community response has been amazing, and I’m hopeful we can reach the one-ton mark with one final collection.”
There is one remaining opportunity to donate:
Sunday, June 21
8:30 a.m. – Noon
St. Andrew Church Hall, Colchester
Donations of non-perishable food items will benefit Catholic Charities, which serves individuals and families throughout eastern Connecticut, providing assistance to those facing difficult circumstances.
Food insecurity often remains hidden, affecting seniors, working families, veterans, and others who may be struggling quietly. Through this project, Anthony hopes not only to collect food, but also to raise awareness of the needs that exist within our own communities.
With 1,275 pounds already collected, every can, box, and bag of food donated on June 21 will help move the project closer to its goal of one ton and provide hope and assistance to neighbors in need.
For those able to participate, your support can help turn compassion into action, one donation at a time.
