 Part-time Senior Writer/Social Media Manager 

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich Communications Ministry seeks a Part-time Senior Writer/Social Media Manager to promote the awareness of all diocesan ministries and initiatives.

Summary of Position:
The Senior Writer/Social Media Manager is responsible for serving as the Ministry’s lead writer for all diocesan events deemed newsworthy. The exercise of this responsibility involves attending and reporting on assigned diocesan events such as Pontifical Masses, public hearings, inter-diocesan programs, diocesan school activities, etc. The Senior Writer/Social Media Manager also advances the diocesan social media presence. The Senior Writer/Social Media Manager further assists the Director of Communications with copy editing, editorial direction, drafting and preparing of non-crisis press relations materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Writes detailed articles (with photographs) for inclusion in diocesan newspaper and online platforms. 
  2. Recruits occasional free-lance correspondents and volunteers. Directs their assignments and sets deadlines.
  3. Builds ever-tighter and more imaginative connection between the website and the newspaper – cross pollinating at every opportunity.
  4. Monitors and analyzes traffic and user engagement metrics to identify best practices to grow online presence.
  5. Implements a content editorial calendar to manage and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns.
  6. Manages content distribution to online channels and social media platforms to increase web traffic.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a true sense of spirituality, knowledge of Catholic doctrine and a desire to help communicate the Joyful Word of the Gospel. 
  • Strong writing & research skills with verifiable journalism experience that includes reporting, interviewing and writing – either broadcast, print or new media. Exhibiting an ability to connect with readership in clear, concise terms is a must.
  • Experience with managing Facebook and other social media profiles.
  • Must exhibit composure and sound judgment to resolve editorial conflicts.
  • Good people skills – ability to work in a team environment with limited resources
  • Minimum associate degree  (preferably English, Communications or Journalism).
  • Fundamental photography skills.
  • Experience dealing with outside agencies/suppliers and with internal constituents.

Compensation commensurate with experience. Approximately 25 to 29 hours/week.

The Communication Office is in Norwich.
