Saint Joseph School Greets Holiday Shoppers, Serves Breakfast

FCC News Desk

St. Joseph School in North Grosvenordale recently held its inaugural Holiday Shopping Event in conjunction with a morning breakfast on Sunday, November 3. Altogether, there were 24 local vendors that attracted numerous breakfast patrons for a head start on the holiday shopping season.  Vendors had their merchandise for sale from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., while the breakfast was held in the school cafeteria from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Net proceeds from the Breakfast/Holiday Shopping Event totaled $3,829.

“As with other fundraising efforts that we have held in the past, SJS always rises to the occasion to put its best foot forward,” Principal David Sizemore said. “It is reassuring to know that we all can count on the time and talents of various members of our school community to work together for the benefit of our students.”

Principal Sizemore acknowledged the leadership of Kacey Terranova, who worked tirelessly to obtain the vendors for this event as well as organizing the set-up for them throughout the first floor of the building. Jean and Jeff Hemmig, the co-chairs of the Sunday breakfast, along with their volunteer crew served up yet another delicious breakfast, and Amanda Farley ran a successful bake sale during the shopping event.

Principal Sizemore also expressed his gratitude to the faculty and staff members who volunteered their time, members of the eighth-grade class who were present to sell various Christmas items as a fundraiser for Project Graduation, as well as to the following organizations/people who sponsored the breakfast: Longmeadow Automotive, the LaFontaine family, the McElroy family, as well as to a family member of SJS who has chosen to remain anonymous.

If anyone is interested in making a donation to the next breakfast, “Breakfast with Santa” on Sunday, December 8, contact David Sizemore at dsizemore@sjschoolng.com or at (860) 923-2090.

If anyone is interested in enrolling a student at St. Joseph School, you can contact the school at (860) 923-2090 or you may reach out directly to Mr. Sizemore at his contact information listed above.

The mission of St. Joseph School is to create a strong foundation of Catholic faith in a caring, respectful and nurturing environment. The school also encourages academic success, instills discipline, and infuses lifetime learning skills in each student. Its school motto is “Where Our Children Shine.”

Pope Blesses Lambs During Annual Tradition on Feast of St. Agnes
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Leo XIV blessed two lambs in the Urban VIII Chapel at the Vatican Jan. 21, the feast of St. Agnes, a Roman martyr who is often depicted with a lamb. Agnes also is a derivative of the Latin word for lamb, "agnus." The lambs are raised by Trappist monks outside Rome, and they are bound and placed in baskets to prevent them from running away during the blessing. They are decorated with red and white flowers and blessed in a formal ceremony at the Basilica of St. Agnes and by the pope at the Vatican.  Benedictine nuns at the Monas...
