Diocese Names New Superintendent of Schools

On behalf of Bishop Cote, I would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. George Milot who has served as Superintendent of Schools, ad interim throughout the past year. As we are all aware, this has been an unusual and challenging year for our schools. The Diocese and our Diocesan Schools are deeply grateful to Dr. Milot for agreeing to come out of retirement in order to provide educational leadership as they navigated the nuances and difficulties of educating our young people in the midst of a pandemic. It is due in no small part to his expertise, guidance, and calm demeanor, coupled with the heroic work of our principals, faculty, and support staff, that our schools have enjoyed much success despite the challenges of the past year.

As Dr. Milot now returns to his well-deserved retirement, I have the pleasure of announcing to you that Bishop Cote has appointed Dr. Gail Kingston, Ed.D. as the new Superintendent of Schools, while remaining Principal of Sacred Heart School in Groton. This appointment is effective today, July 1, 2021.

Dr. Kingston has served as a school administrator for over 30 years and brings to the position a wealth of experience as a veteran Catholic school educator. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Kingston for her willingness to serve the Diocese in this capacity in addition to her responsibilities as Principal at Sacred Heart School. We are likewise confident that she has the experience and skills necessary to serve both as a resource for, and to provide educational leadership to our nine (9) elementary schools. As was the arrangement throughout the past academic year, the Bishop has asked me to continue to serve as his delegate and primary point of contact for the Diocese with regard to our four (4) Catholic high schools.

This appointment marks a significant change in the administration of our Diocesan School Office. Over the coming months, Dr. Kingston will oversee a review of the Office in light of the changing needs of our schools and the modifications to the responsibilities of the Superintendent. Any further changes or adjustments will be communicated as the need arises.

I know that you will all join with us in welcoming Dr. Kingston to her new ministry in the Diocese!

Fr. Peter Langevin

A Catholic music educator for over three decades, Anne is a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a relentless advocate for the arts in Catholic schools, and a recent quarterfinalist for the 2026 Grammy Music Educator Award.
